Homeschooling

I am the product of a pioneer, homeschooling generation.  My parents began their homeschool journey in 1982, as I was about to begin my 3rd grade year.  I have always valued and appreciated my homeschooling years, so when my husband and I started our family, we both knew we wanted to homeschool our children.

I have now been homeschooling my own family for nine years and I am so blessed to live in an area that is home-school friendly, surrounded by like-minded friends and church family.

In our homeschool room, we learn more than just the basics, here we learn character-training, Bible training, self-discipline, home-making skills, farming skills, survival skills, vet skills, and cooperation.  Just to name a few.  :)

I truly believe that it is mine and my husband's responsibility as parents to these children, to raise them in the knowledge of the Lord, training them in holiness and righteousness, not worldliness.  The best tutelage they can receive is from a godly, Christian household, and not a public schoolroom.

That is our personal decision and conviction.  You can read more about our homeschool journey here.

For those who are interested in our curriculum choices, here is a list:
ABeka for phonics and reading K - 2nd grade
ABeka for math K and 1st grade
Saxon Math for all grades 2nd - high school
Rod and Staff for phonics, Bible, spelling, and penmanship grades 2nd - 8th
Winston Grammar for additional grammar study for 3rd and 4th grade

For science, we use various books and experiments, and may change from grade to grade or child to child.  One of my favorite science curricula has been Considering God's Creation.

For History, we use many living books and tend to follow Charlotte Mason's style.

As for some of the homeschooling sites I tend to frequent:
