A Multitude of Words

Proverbs 10:19  "In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise."

I have a problem.....

I talk too much.

Shocking, I know.

I wish I knew how to keep quiet and still.  Sometimes, I am obedient to the wisdom of silence, and other times, I lose all self-control and say too much.  I cannot express to you how many times I have emailed or called a friend, apologizing and hoping they didn't take offense to whatever foolishness may have escaped my lips at the time.  There are times I am well meaning, but what comes out of my mouth is not very eloquent or graceful.

I interrupt.

I make jokes.

I follow rabbit trails.

Any spiritual encouragement is lost at times, simply because I have said too much.

All in all, most times I sound like an idiot.

As women, it is one of the most difficult things to stay out of gossip, or perhaps our feelings or emotions towards a hurtful relationship plays out in a conversation with a mutual friend.  Oh, how many times I wished I had refrained my lips, at the very least to appear wise.  Flippant words uttered that I can never take back.  For "Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding."   Proverbs 17:28

"In the multitude of words..."  it's so very easy to say too much, and end up in sin.  I pray we all learn to hold our tongue, speak words of encouragement and grace, and build others up instead of trying to sound like the all-wise, all-knowing, woman of wisdom.  But also, to keep quiet, emit peace, and just listen.

On the Subject of Trendiness

Trendy
A word I seem to hear often.  Even in my conservative Christian circle, I hear reference to that particular word......
“Surely I can dress modestly and still be trendy!”
As a Christian woman, concerned with the issue of modesty, what is the motivation for dressing in a trendy style?
Whatever excuse you may make for yourself, it is basically because you wish to be accepted by the world.  To fit in and not be considered a freak or different.  Even though we are to be set apart, to be in the world, but not of it, the truth is, all too often we are enticed by what the world has to offer.
Otherwise, why would it matter so much.

Why base your self-worth on something that's here today and gone tomorrow?
The definition of “trendy”:
1.  very fashionable; up-to-date
2.  marked by ephemeral, superficial, or faddish appeal or taste

How many times have we looked at fashions past, commented on how ugly or foolish some fads were, and before we know it, that same style is back.  Those who vehemently were against such style, now think "it's the cutest thing EVER!"  Really?  Because it's only going to fade away yet again and you'll look back thinking "why did I ever give in to that stupid trend?"

But who determines style, trends, and fashion?  The world!  Enter the eternal struggle of Christians claiming to be in the world, but not of it.  The subject of “trend” or what’s “in style” has always been a stumbling block.  It is not for us to “lust” after the world and their rules, but to concern ourselves with the will of God.  And who really cares what we wear?  The world?  Is it really worth it?

Let me just say, that I am not against finding a style that suits you, whether it’s something that is currently trendy, or something that is considered out-dated.  Why not dress in a manner that is not only pleasing to the Lord, your brothers and sisters in Christ, but still holds true to your personality.  Be your own style, and make it who you are, not who the world thinks you should be.  I believe we can dress in a way that appeals to wholesomeness, modesty, and good taste and still not be "freakish".  Dressing appropriately doesn’t mean you have to give up personal style, but it does mean that you may have to give up the latest trend.
1 John 2:15-17
"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."

Facebook, Flopsy Bunny, and a Giveaway

I haven't posted for Flopsy Bunny Boutique in a few months!  I have some new items to share, more on the way, and an upcoming giveaway.

I decided back in August to take a break from Facebook.  What I intended to be only for a few weeks, turned into a few months.  For my own personal reasons, I will continue to keep my personal page private and anonymous, so if you send me a friend request, don't be offended if I ignore it.  I just decided I don't need the extra distraction.  Just know, "I love ya, man!"  That being said, I do offer a group page for Flopsy Bunny, you only have to ask to join and I'll add you as soon as possible.

In the next day or two, I will be offering a giveaway for new fans, old fans, and new blog subscribers.  Once I have all of the details, I will post here and on Facebook.  No more Facebook contests, they have gotten really picky about giveaways.  :(

One more thing, I added some new products and will add some more soon.  Feather headbands and shabby flower headbands.  I make them to fit any size from infant through adults.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in on me during my sabbatical, I really appreciate it!

Fall Allergies and Memory Lapse

I haven't been around much this week.  It's kind of hard to focus on typing complete, compelling, and informative sentences when one's head is stuffed full of snot.  OK, maybe not so compelling...and maybe a little TMI...  Fall allergies are in full swing, and so is my swimming head.  This enchanting season and I have a love/hate relationship.

My birthday was Friday.  Aside from lunch with my in-laws, dinner with my parents, and several sweet friends who remember my birthday, not much to share.  Except, I'm 29 indefinitely.

I lost another child to double digits.  Kaitlyn's birthday was on Wednesday, and she's 10 now.  Sniff....  (no really, I'm not crying, it's allergies)

I realized something yesterday, when you offer to help a friend learn to sew, make sure you aren't being attacked by fall allergies, otherwise you may measure incorrectly.  Or lose said friend.  Her fabric.  And maybe a finger...

I did manage to lose my purse in Kingwood, lose my sunglasses, lose my coffee, a various assortment of other objects, all while maintaining my sanity, my weight, and my children.

Have I mentioned how much I dislike fall allergies...?

And I think I may need some Ginkgo Biloba.

Hope you're having a great Sunday!

About Me

I am a Christ following, homeschooling, natural living, green thumbing, craft loving, large family raising, husband adoring, homesteading, skirt wearing, mother of nine.

I am a Jack (or Jane) of many trades and a master of none.

Slightly crunchy.

No nuts.

OK, maybe a little nuts.

I am passionate about good health, organic foods, homeschooling, and modest living.

I wear skirts.

I believe in the lost art of femininity, virtue, nobility, and the blessings of womanhood.

My husband is my knight in shining armor.  I just can't get him to ride a horse.

My children are my true blessings and a joy.

I believe I am to be set apart.  Different.  Not necessarily WEIRD.

I know what I believe and why.  I don't rely on the convictions or teachings of others to determine my path.

I believe in the inerrant, infallible Word of God.

I follow Christ only, not man.

I am thankful that the Lord's mercies are new every morning.

I am grateful for the cross, grace, mercy, forgiveness, and salvation.

Matthew 5:16  "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

The 80's Called....

They want their hair back.

I've gone curly.  Big curly.  What?  You didn't know I had curly hair?!  That's because I've been straightening it for at least 8 years!  I'm trying to embrace what the Lord has given me and trying to accept it as a blessing.  Which means, fighting the frizz, taming the unruly, disciplining the tresses, and calming the disoriented locks.

It doesn't help that my children notice a vast change, although perhaps not a great improvement.
Oldest dd:  Mom, what's up with your hair?  Is your Chi broken?"
Me: No, I'm trying to embrace my natural curly girl.
Oldest dd: Not really working out for you too well, huh?

Soooooo, if you see someone that looks like she just escaped from 1985, but has a face similar to mine, just know, it's probably me.  Maybe I should wear a name badge for awhile.  Or maybe the seven children trailing behind me would be a giveaway....
